Austria's "best" university

Montanuniversität Leoben has been coming out on top for years in various surveys and rankings as indisputably the best and most popular university in Austria.

The results of the annual student survey conducted by Universum Communications, a consultancy company based in Helsinki, have confirmed Montanuniversität's excellent reputation. In 2016, among all Austrian universities, Montanuniversität Leoben came out on top in the category "Strongest Focus on Employability", reflecting the students' views on how well the University prepared them for the job market.
In the category "Most Satisfied Students", Leoben placed second as the best school in science and engineering.
On a scale from 1 ("very dissatisfied") to 10 ("outstanding"), the average content and happiness of Leoben's students showed a score of 8.1, with 7.3 being the average for all Austrian students.
Furthermore, 93 percent of all Montanuniversität Leoben students said that they would choose their home university again if they had the choice, with an university satisfaction rate in Austria of 86 percent.

The survey " Graduate Barometer 2016" conducted by trendence from September 2015 to February 2016 shows similar results. Leoben students were asked to rate how happy they are with their chosen place of study with a score of 1.9 on a scale of 1 ("outstanding") to 7 ("very dissatisfied"). The average university satisfaction rate in Austria in the study published was 2.5, with Austria, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland and Czech Republic receiving the best ratings.
Furthermore, 92.9 percent of all Leoben students would recommend studying at Montanuniversität Leoben according to the 2016 survey. This score is significantly higher than the Austrian and European average (87.8 percent respectively).
Students are particularly happy with Montanuniversität Leoben's "Scientific Competence" (91.5 percent) which is also considered the most important determinant for their studies.
The University also showes high approval rates in relation to "Contact between the University and the business sector", "Quality of library facilities" as well as "Location" and "Student activities."

A survey of personnel managers at leading Austrian companies in June 2014, carried out by euroSEARCH/Agentur für Dialogmanagement on behalf of "Format"  magazine, put the Leoben university in top place for the sixth time in a row. Montanuniversität is the only establishment scoring an average better than a grade "2" in a scala of 1-5. In the category of "engineering" the University of Leoben scored the best grade at 1,97, followed by TU Graz (2,05) and FH Vorarlberg (2,19). The best establishment in the field of economics is Ferdinand Porsche Fern FH with a score of 2,25.

"Format" ranking 2014 - category of "engineering"

Montanuniversität also achieved great results in the "Quantitative Ranking of Engineering Disciplines (QRED)" by the School of Engineering der École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL): in materials sciences, the outstanding Styrian university came in 7th place in October 2012, as the second-best European university. The top 5 places went to American research institutions, followed by the University of Cambridge. Assessment of the individual universities in the QRED ranking is based 50/50 on the number of academic publications (articles and conference presentations) per professor and the number of quotations per publication in the two years after publication.

The results of the " Studierenden-Sozialerhung 2015", a survey conducted by the Federal Ministry of Science, Resarch and Economy, are also more than positiv. Leoben has by far the lowest housing costs in comparison to all other university locations. In the spring semester of 2015, Austrian students had to pay an average of 389 euros per month, however Leoben students only spent an average of 304 euros per month for their accommodation. Thus, according to the latest survey, Montanuniversität Leoben students are the most satisfied of all Austrian students in terms of their housing costs.
Another interesting fact is that the geographic location of the University only pays a minor role for prospective students whereas factors such as future income opportunities, situation of the job market, social prestige after graduation are essential.
